Golf: Darrell & Cox Take Thanksgiving Challenge
The Bermuda Golf Association held its annual Thanksgiving Challenge on the Hill at the Turtle Hill Golf Course.
A total of 33 golfers took to the par 3 track as they played 36 holes during the course of the day. After Round 1, Jevon Roberts led the men’s division with a one-shot lead posting a 5-over par 59. Tracey Burgess carded an impressive 4 over par 58 to lead the ladies division at the end of round 1.
Jason Darrell and Ebonie Cox both came from behind to take low gross honors in their respective divisions. Darrell posted the only under-par score for the day as he turned in a scintillating one under par 53 in his second round. Darrell was in the first group out and his two-round total of 116 was posted for the rest of the field to chase.
James Godwin came closest as he carded rounds of 60 and 57 respectively to post 117 over his two rounds. rounding off the top three, was Richard Marriott who finished on 118 on retrogression over Roberts.
In the ladies’ gross division, Ebonie Cox secured the top spot with a two-round total of 117. Cox was trailing Burgess after round one by 2 shots. Her second round 57 proved to be enough to win by 5 strokes over runner-up Ann Symonds. Katrin Burnie rounded out the top three with a two-round total of 123 as she edged out round 1 leader Burgess on retrogression.
For the first time in many years, there were 5 juniors competing for junior division honors. Dylan Muso led all juniors with a two-round total of 121 to win by 5 strokes over Sa-Qui Robinson who finished on 126. Arman Newton was one shot back on 127 to round out the top three in the junior division.
