Foundations Art Fair Features Bermudian Artists
Black Pony Gallery has been invited to participate in the Artsy-produced online art fair, Foundations, which is taking place January 23 to February 14, 2024.
A spokesperson said, “Featured artists include James Cooper, Teresa Kirby Smith, ABWilson and Charles Zuill [Bermuda] and John Reno Jackson [Cayman].
“Black Pony Gallery will present three artworks by each artist, all working in the manner of abstract [or semi-abstract] artwork. Abstract art describes artwork that is non-representational or presents non-accurate depictions of reality. This means we recognize shapes and colors, and we register our feelings instead of recognizing an actual scene of a person, place, or object.
“In this 5 artists x 3 artworks exhibition, the abstract [or mostly abstract] artworks encourage a moment of consideration, to allow our minds to wander, to hang out with the art because we can.
‘Expanses of lush color by photographer ABWilson evoke a sense of music and harmony while the silverpoint drawings, like ‘Foghorns in the Dead of Night’, by Charles Zuill conjure the echoey abyss of the midnight ocean. James Cooper entertains with butterfly-like floating shells [Shelz #3] and original sculptures turned into photographic compositions.
“John Reno Jackson uses ink to suggest body forms that are swimming [as the titles indicate] but are also rather evocative. Teresa Kirby Smith continues to create new perspectives, in this case bending her photographic eye on London’s architecture.
“These creative expressions in photography, drawing, and painting are presented at various sizes and price points for investment. Please contact the gallery for more information.”
“I love abstract art primarily because it is so open to interpretation. Abstract artwork offers more questions than answers, allows our minds to wander and create imagined stories, and is uplifting. It seems we need this type of artwork more and more,” said Lisa Howie, Founding Director, Black Pony Gallery.
