Etienne Wolffe Named Olympic NOC Assistant
The Bermuda Olympic Association announced that Etienne Wolffe has been selected as the National Olympic Committee [NOC] Assistant to Team Bermuda for the 2024 Paris Olympic Games.
A spokesperson said, “Bermuda will be assigned a total of 4 NOC assistants by the Paris 2024 Organizing Committee. Etienne, a Bermudian, is a first-year student at the University of Ottawa in Canada. A graduate of Warwick Academy, where he was the Student Leader of the Human rights project, he is also an avid basketball player and trumpeter.”
Chef de Mission, Katura Horton-Perinchief, said, “Team Bermuda has never had a Bermudian NOC Assistant at a major festival before, so this is a major coup for us. A unique opportunity for a French-speaking Bermudian to be in the throes of the most prolific multi-sports event on the planet.
“The NOC Assistants are very much a part of the team; they spend time in the village and at venues supporting and assisting athletes, officials, guests, and support staff wherever they may be required.
“Etienne’s fluency in French, familiarity with France, organizational skills, ability to work under pressure, and passion for sport will be an asset to Bermuda’s Olympic team as our athletes shoulder the mammoth task of providing excellent sporting representation for the country in Paris. We are grateful to have him on board.”
Etienne Wolffe said, “Because of the sheer volume of applications, when I received the news that I was selected, I was in a state of shock but also filled with deep gratitude for the opportunity to serve in this capacity. I look forward to contributing to the success of the Olympic Games, witnessing elite athletes performing their crafts and meeting people from different cultures around the globe.”
The spokesperson said, “There were over 300,000 applications received for 45,000 volunteer positions at the Paris 2024 Olympic and Paralympic Games. The Games will run from July 26 – August 11, 2024.”
