Khano Smith’s Team Ready For Bermuda Trip
Khano Smith’s Rhode Island FC team have spent the past week training at the IMG Academy in Bradenton, Florida, ahead of their six-day pre-season trip to Bermuda.
Smith, who was appointed coach and general manager of Rhode Island in March last year, will play two matches against a Bermuda Select team on February 24 and 27.
The former Dandy Town and Bermuda national team winger wrote on Instagram yesterday: “Great two weeks at the IMG Academy.
“Thanks to our ownership and board for providing us with this amazing experience. A great place to bond and train at a world-class facility. We leave a better team. Home for a few days and then time to head to Bermuda.”
Rhode Island will make their debut in the USL Championship – the second tier of football in the United States – this season and face New Mexico United at home in their opener on March 16.
They lost 3-1 to Major League Soccer [MSL] side Orlando City 3-1 in a pre-season friendly on February 7.
Smith played professionally for New England Revolution and New York Red Bulls in the MLS and Lincoln City in England.
