Remember When: Wells Reached 100 Goals
[Written by Stephen Wright]
Seven years ago today, Nahki Wells reached the 100-goal milestone in English football after scoring in Huddersfield Town’s 3-1 win at home to Brighton & Hove Albion in the Sky Bet Championship.
The Bermudian struck in the 36th minute, showing his predatory instincts by firing into the top corner to give his side a 2-1 lead.
“I really laced it into the top of the net, and I will always enjoy taking credit for a goal,” Wells told the Yorkshire Post.
“I was pleased to score, but the win was the major thing, and it was a really good team performance.
“Everyone chipped in – and all 11 had a claim to be man of the match.”
Huddersfield clinched promotion that season, defeating Reading 4-3 via a penalty shootout in the play-off final at Wembley Stadium after the match ended goalless.
Wells scored ten goals in all competitions to help Huddersfield reach the Premier League.
He netted 48 goals in 152 appearances for Huddersfield before joining top-flight Burnley for £5 million [$6.3 million] later that summer.
The 33-year-old now plays for Bristol City in the second tier of English football.
