Road Named In Honour Of Shirley Gibbons
In a ceremony held on Thursday in St. George’s, the Minister of Public Works Lt. Col. David Burch paid tribute to the late Mr. Shirley Granville Gibbons by installing a road sign in his honour.
A Government spokesperson said, “Mrs Gardene Gibbons, the widow of Mr Gibbons, MPs Renee Ming and Lovitta Foggo, and Ms Zayna Foggo joined the Minister.
“The newly named ‘The Shirley Granville Gibbons Way’ memorialises Mr. Gibbons, who passed away last summer. The sign, positioned on the golf cart path of the Five Forts Golf Course, used to be part of the Gibbons family’s property.”
Minister Burch expressed his sentiments during the ceremony and later stated, “Through this unveiling, we not only honour Mr Shirley Gibbons, a notable St. Georgian, but also reflect on the strength and resilience of a family known and respected within the community.
“It is with a heavy heart that we remember Mr Gibbons, who left us before seeing this day. However, in this sign, his memory and contributions to our community will forever be etched into the landscape of St. George’s.”
Minister Burch added, “Meeting Mrs Gibbons and witnessing the sign installation was a meaningful tribute to his legacy. Although Mr Gibbons is not with us to witness this, we hope his spirit will continue guiding residents and visitors along this path.”
The Government spokesperson said, “Mrs Gibbons expressed her thanks to Minister Burch, MPs Renee Ming and Lovitta Foggo, Surveyor Ms Quinnell Francis and lawyer Mr Phil Perinchief.”
So how much did we buy them out for for granting the easement across their property without consulting them?
That wasn’t the context of the compensation but the amount is a matter of public record.
Who is this person to have roads named after them? Why the whole name?
