Sean Trott will be eyeing a third title when he competes in the Lindo’s to Lindo’s 10K Run on Sunday [March 3].
The defending champion will be among the top contenders in the annual race – which is celebrating its 25th anniversary – starting at Lindo’s Family Foods in Warwick and finishing at Lindo’s Market in Devonshire.
The start of last year’s event:
He also won the race in 2019 and came runner-up in 2020.
“I’m going for title number three and looking for a good time,” Trott told Bernews. “I’m always shooting for a sub-34 [minutes] and hope to run a strong race.”
Trott, whose 10k personal best is 32min 50sec, has made an impressive start to the year, finishing fifth in the BF&M 10K and winning the Ed Sherlock 8K, the Swan’s Running Club Legends Series opening race.
“I’m at a different stage to last year when I had a slight injury and always felt like I was playing catch-up the rest of the year,” said Trott, who represented Bermuda at the NatWest International Island Games in Guernsey last summer.
“I’ve seen my fitness increasing every race and have been able to put in some strong training sessions, which have been fruitful. Everything is trending upwards and building towards May 24 – that’s my primary objective.”
The Lindo’s to Lindo’s 10K will raise funds for the Bermuda Diabetes Association [BDA], a cause close to Trott’s heart.
“I have some family members who have diabetes, so historically, that’s been a bit of a concern,” he added.
“I have a huge amount of respect for the organisers for choosing diabetes as a focus.”
Maria Kemiji-McDonald won the women’s race last year, with Maddie Durkin second and Teresa Ruiz third.
