Human Rights Conference On March 21
The Bermuda Human Rights Commission announced their 2024 conference — with a theme of ‘What Can I Do? What Can We Do?’ — will take place on March 21st at Pier Six, Front Street, Hamilton from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
A spokesperson said, “Executive Officer, Lisa Reed, extends a public invitation to anyone who is passionate about creating a world where everyone’s rights are respected and celebrated.”
Ms. Reed stated, “This day-long event offers an interactive experience where attendees will consider their role in building a more inclusive and just society. Whether you’re a seasoned advocate or just starting your human rights journey, your voice matters.”
“We will host a panel discussion moderated by Chen Foley, Lawyer, Insurance Professional and Human Rights Advocate. The outstanding panelists include:
- Arlene Brock, the Managing Director of the Adult Education School and former Ombudsman for Bermuda
- Latisha Lister-Burgess, Executive Director of Employee Assistance Program [EAP]
- Arion Mapp, Lawyer for the Human Rights Commission
- Dr. Amanda Marshall, Psychologist and Disability Rights advocate
- The Hon. Justice Juan Wolffe, Puisne Judge of the Supreme Court
“We are pleased to be joined by representatives from Bermuda Is Love and Social Justice Bermuda who will share more about their collective advocacy. Artist and Professor Yesha Townsend will open the event with new work in honour of the convening. Audience members will engage in thought-provoking conversations, explore critical topics like inclusion, access, and the individual’s role in upholding human rights. Additionally, we will gain valuable insights, address practical steps for action and build meaningful connections through conversations and hands on exercises.”
Ms. Reed concluded, “Everyone is welcome. This event is open to anyone who wants to contribute to building a more just and equitable world.
