Police Confirm Death Of Male Visitor
The police have confirmed the death of a male visitor to the island.
A police spokesperson said, “Shortly after 3.00pm on Wednesday, 27 March 2024, police received a report of persons in difficulty in the water at Horseshoe Bay.
“Police, Emergency Medical Services and Coastguard personnel were dispatched to scene. Upon arrival, officers established there were three persons, all visitors to the island, requiring assistance.
“Information provided indicates a child got into difficulty while in the water and a male went to her assistance. However, he too got into difficulty and became in need of help. A woman then entered the water and was able to get both the child and the male out.
“Life-saving efforts commenced immediately once the male, who was unresponsive, was out of the water. He was transported by ambulance to King Edward VII Memorial Hospital [KEMH], where, sadly, he was pronounced dead a short time later.
“The young child was alert. She was taken in another ambulance to KEMH for medical assessment. There will be no further information provided at this time.”
