Southampton Parish Hosts Community Events
The Southampton Parish Council capped off an active month of Parish & Community Outreach in March with an ‘Easter Egg Hunt’ for children from Southampton Parish, held on the weekend, at Whale Bay Park.”
Southampton Parish Council Chairperson Ms Stacey-Lee Williams said, “The month’s activities began with the ‘We Remember Golf Tournament’ held on 2nd March at the Port Royal Golf Course. It was the first golf tournament the Council hosted, so we partnered with former Southampton Rangers Sports Club President and Royal Bermuda Regiment Sergeant Major Randy Raynor to co-host the Tournament.
“The Tournament remembers fallen Community Personalities, with proceeds this year going to our Scholarship Fund. As a result of our generous sponsors, an anonymous donor, and teams’ participation in the successful tournament, Council has increased its Fund, and can expand the number and/or the value of our awards when applications open later this year.”
To celebrate World Book Day on 7th March, as it does every year, Council Members attended Southampton Parish schools to read to pre-school and P1 students. The children started their day with their favourite books being read to them and were celebrating by wearing storybook character’s costumes. Ms Williams said, “Looking at the faces of Members, it was hard to see who enjoyed the moments more…the children or Council Members.”
The spokesperson said, “In addition to reading to students, Southampton Parish Council also donated a free book to the preschool and P1 students at Dalton E. Tucker Primary, The Bermuda Institute, Port Royal Primary, and the Southampton Pre-School.”
And then, at 2:30 on Saturday, 22nd March, Council Members invited children between the ages of 2 and 10 years from Southampton Parish to enjoy an Easter Egg Hunt. Ms. Williams stated, “Council Members, led by Member Lisa Spurling, stuffed then hid 768 eggs all over Whale Bay Park. The eggs were then hunted for by over 75 children who spread out and filled the Park with giggles and squeals as they found the candy filled eggs. It was an amazing day”.
The spokesperson said, “In addition to carrying out Community initiatives in March, the Council also held its regular monthly meeting on the 14th. Ms. Williams said she was extremely grateful for the hard working, and community-spirited team and invites Parish Residents to its Public Meeting to be held on the 25th April, and to see its Facebook page for details.”
