Top Locals To Compete In Squash Champs
The island’s top squash players will battle for honours in the Gnosis Bermuda National Squash Championships in Devonshire.
The championships run from March 11 to 15 and will involve 60 players in 11 different divisions, which will be determined by age or ability level.
The men’s and women’s open draws will be tightly contested, with husband-and-wife Micah and Eilidh Franklin defending their titles.
In the men’s open, Noah Browne will look for redemption after narrowly losing out last year; meanwhile, youngsters Anaya Smith and Taylor Carrick will be hungry for an upset.
In the women’s open, Franklin will face competition from Melina Turk, the new Bermuda Squash Association pro, playing in the tournament for the first time.
Susie Howells will also aim to continue her fine form after winning the BSA Club Championships in November last year.
Youngsters Tyler Komposch and Gabrielle Turchiaro will also hope to challenge for honours.
The veterans division will involve top seeds John Fletcher, Nick Leach, and Joann Bielby, with titles in the 40-plus, 50-plus, and 60-plus categories up for grabs.
Neil Lupsic, the Gnosis Bermuda chief executive, said: “We’re thrilled to return as the lead sponsor for the 2024 Bermuda National Squash Championships for a second year.
“For a relatively small island, this community is thriving, and as a squash player myself, it’s great to support local initiatives like this.
“The whole team at Gnosis will be following the competition closely, and we wish all players the best of luck!”
