BGA & Golf Foundation Launch Operation 36
The Bermuda Golf Association [BGA] and The Bermuda Golf Foundation unveiled the launch of the Operation 36 program.
A spokesperson said, “The Bermuda Golf Association [BGA], the National Sport Governing Body for golf and The Bermuda Golf Foundation [Charity #141] are delighted to announce the launch of the Operation 36 program at Port Royal Golf Course, marking a significant milestone in the BGA’s initiative to expand golf access across Bermuda. This announcement follows the successful implementation of the BGA Junior Program at Ocean View and various Operation 36 programs of offer at The Turtle Hill Golf Club.
“Port Royal Golf Course, a Championship public golf course, becomes the third facility in Bermuda to implement the Operation 36 framework, which is designed to foster golfing skills in a structured environment for beginners.
“The program at Port Royal is set to begin on Thursday, April 25, 2024, and will run for ten weeks, The initial program will be welcoming boys and girls aged 7 to 13. The Port Royal teaching team BPGA Vice-President and Port Royal Assistant Golf Professional, Mr. Steven Lambert, along with BPGA member and Assistant Golf Professional, Mr. Andrew Trott-Francis, will lead the sessions.”
Mr. Craig Brown, President of the Bermuda Golf Association, stated, “We are thrilled to see the Port Royal team launch their Operation 36 program. The BGA Operation 36 Pilot Program has been a resounding success with over 100 children accessing the game of golf in the past 12 months. The Operation 36 pilot program has been well received in Bermuda. It has been made possible with funding support received form the Government of Bermuda and The Butterfield Bermuda Championship. The expansion of the program is a testament to the hard work of BGA Golf Development Officer, Mrs. Ebonie Cox, and all the teams at each facility involved.”
Mr. Steven Lambert added, “Our team at Port Royal is excited to be a part of the BGA Pilot Program and offer Operation 36 tao ll beginners and juniors. We see this program as a key part to providing access and growing the game for those who wish to learn golf in a fun, social environment.” Andrew Trott-Francis went on to say, “I am extremely excited to introduce a prestigious program such as Op36 to the golfing community at Port Royal. With dedication and determination, we’ll stride towards excellence, one swing at a time. I invite anybody who is curious about golf to get involved with one of the Op36 at any of the hosting golf courses.”
Chairman of The Board of Trustee of The Golf Courses, Mr. Kim Swan, “We are pleased that the Teaching Golf Professionals at Port Royal are collaborating with the Bermuda Golf Association to support the Operation 36 Outreach Golf Program. We’ve seen how this initiative grows the game which provides a great opportunity in Bermuda amongst our diverse sports loving communities.”
