Four Bermudians Receive Raleigh Scholarship
Four young Bermudians — Mikhyla Ming, Paris Robinson, Odhari Hodson and Adonté Martin — are set to embark on a transformative 10-week expedition to South Africa and Costa Rica as recipients of Raleigh Bermuda’s Venturers’ Scholarship, valued at $12,000 each.
A spokesperson said, “Raleigh International Bermuda is thrilled to announce 4 young Bermudians who have been chosen for the 2024 Venturers’ Scholarship, who will embark on a transformative expedition to South Africa and Costa Rica as ambassadors of Bermuda for 10-weeks. The Raleigh Bermuda Venturers’ Scholarship is valued at $12,000 each.
“Amidst the breathtaking landscapes of Costa Rican jungles and the rugged plateaus of South Africa, these young adventurers will use their survival skills, acquired through five months of rigorous training at Raleigh’s local training camps in Bermuda.
“Raleigh Bermuda’s training camps equips our young people with advanced survival skills in hunting, foraging, fire-building, shelter construction, and resource management. They must also endure six consecutive days of trekking, sleeping in the outdoors, carrying up to 85lbs through rain or shine, to braving the ocean currents and swimming from Coney Island to Ferry Reach.

“They will spend the upcoming summer engaging in meaningful work across South Africa and Costa Rica, collaborating with indigenous communities, supporting orphanages, and spearheading vital infrastructure projects such as schools and water systems. They will also trek through jungles and mountains for several weeks and their endeavors will also encompass environmental initiatives aimed at fostering sustainability and conservation efforts.
“Raleigh Bermuda’s Venturers’ Programme stands as a testament to their commitment to nurturing the next generation of leaders. Open to young individuals aged 17 to 24, this intensive program emphasizes not only survival skills but also cultivates confidence, resilience, and leadership qualities crucial for navigating adulthood and shaping the future of our community.
“Since its inception in 2004, Raleigh Bermuda has awarded over 185 scholarships to deserving Bermudian youths, empowering them to realize their potential and make a positive impact on the world.”
