Khano Smith’s Rhode Island Claim First Win
Khano Smith’s Rhode Island won the first match in the club’s history with a 2-1 win away to Las Vegas Lights in the USL Championship yesterday [April 20].
Stephen Turnbull opened the scoring for the visiting side in the 25th minute before Noah Fuson doubled their advantage on the stroke of half-time.
Las Vegas pulled a goal back through Valentin Noel in the 53rd minute but Rhode Island survived a nervous finale to hold on for a memorable victory.
Smith, a former Bermuda national team captain, was appointed as head coach and general manager in March last year.
His side, who have climbed to eighth in the table, are at home to Phoenix Rising on April 26.
