Pickleballers Compete In Miami Pickleball Open
Six Bermuda pickleballers competed in the Chase APP Miami Pickleball Open at the Miami Beach Convention Center.
Sue Chiappa, Mark Cordeiro, Gavin Manders, Benjamin Jones, Sarah Fox, and Danny Fox all competed.
Chiappa was crowned the mixed doubles skill: 3.5: 55+ class Champion alongside Massi Furlan. The pair defeated Heather Moffatt and Gary Miller 11-4, 11-8 in the gold medal match. Chiappa teamed up with Sarah Fox in the women’s doubles skill: 4.0: 60+ class; unfortunately, they did not win a match in the round robin, finishing sixth overall.
Manders and Jones finished with the silver medal competing in the men’s doubles skill: 4.5: 19+ division. Manders and Jones won their quarter-final round match 15-13 against Tomas Heredia and Eduardo Bilbao.
In the semi-finals, Manders and Jones defeated Brad Emdur and Brandon Fooks 15-3 in the silver medal match. Manders and Jones edged Isaac Delbury and Robert Oddy 13-11.
Cordeiro and Eddie Anderson lined up for the men’s doubles skill: 5.0: 50+ class. The pair fell in their semi-final match 15 – 11 to Robert Mittleman and James Howitt. Cordeiro and Anderson then took to the court for the bronze medal match, falling 11-2, 11-9 to Pablo Salas and James Gerson.
Cordeiro and Anderson also competed in the men’s doubles skill: 5.0; 55+, 60+ class, heading straight into the semi-finals. Cordeiro and Anderson fell 15 – 10 to Matthew Geer and Jeff Johnson. They again played in the bronze medal match, falling 11-9, 11-8 to James Gerson and Kevin Casey.
Cordeiro competed in the mixed doubles skill: 5.0: 50+ class with Marina Anderson. In their semi-final match, Cordeiro and Anderson fell 15 – 9 to Marie Jo Trottier and Sylvain Barabe. In the bronze medal match, the pair fell 11-0, 11-7 to Cheryl McDonough and Scott Tingley.
Sarah and Danny Fox finished fifth in the mixed doubles skill: 4.0: 65+ class, falling in all four games.
Danny Fox teamed up with Hector Sztainer in the men’s doubles skill: 4.0: 70+ class; the pair finished fifth, unable to win a match in the round robin.
