YAO Baseball Season Gets Underway
The YAO baseball season finally got underway, with three games completed in two divisions.
Rookie Majors Division:
A spokesperson said, “Behind the strong pitching of Henry Brown and fine plays in the field by William Hayne, the Mariners won the first game of the year 4-1 over the Angels. Roman Jagoda had 3 hits for the Mariners including a 2 run double in the 5th and closed the door on the Angels by pitching a scoreless 6th. Hats off to Angels standouts Madden DeSilva, who had two hits in his first ever game, and Grayson Hartnett-Beasley who added a hit and a strong inning of work from the mound.
Cal Ripken Division:
“The Mets tied the Blue Jays in their season opener 8 – 8. Mets pitcher Ethan Hunter had a stellar performance by striking out five batters in two innings and recorded three hits of his own, including a two-RBI triple in the top of the sixth. The Blue Jays were powered by Isaiah Furbert, who went three for three at the plate and strong pitching from Carter Simons, who pitched two scoreless innings.
“The Red Sox defeated the Yankees in their opening day game 11 – 8 up at Kindley Field in St. Davids. The Red Sox were led by pitchers James Kenahan, James Cook, and Tucker Champion who proved too much for the Yankees, highlighted by only allowing one walk combined over six innings. Standout hitting was enjoyed by both sides with George Morris [Red Sox] going 3 for 3 at the plate, and a timely triple from Roman Stovell [Yankees] in the 5th inning.”
