Bermuda Smash Invitational T20 Tournament
The Bermuda Smash Invitational T20 Cricket Tournament will be held on May 15-19 at the National Sports Centre.
A spokesperson said, “The Ministry of Tourism, Culture, and Sport is encouraging all interested residents and cricket fans to attend the Bermuda Smash Invitational T20 Cricket Tournament which takes place next week.
“Happening at the National Sports Centre from May 15 -19, 2024, this four-day tournament is set to be filled with non-stop action and an atmosphere of excitement for sports enthusiasts.
“The Government is fully supportive of the island hosting high-level sports events and the Ministry is proud to be the lead sponsor of this inaugural BSI tournament.
“Only three weeks outside the start of the 2024 ICC Men’s T20 World Cup tournament, this event will undoubtedly entice fans ahead of the start of international matches hosted in the United States and West Indies from June 1.
Minister of Tourism, Culture, and Sport, Sen. Owen Darrell said, “We, at the Ministry, are excited to be lead sponsors of the Bermuda Smash Invitational T20 Cricket tournament this year. It will be a chance for everyone to see some of the world’s top athletes compete against home grown talent in the fast-paced T20 match style that entertains cricket fans young and old.”
“The tournament matches will feature four drafted teams competing for the top position. Each team consists of 12 local players and one international professional player.
“The event will feature:
- “The first-ever Bermuda Smash Invitational Live Draft Night at the Oceanview Golf Club at 6.30 pm on Friday, May 10.
- “Four days of Intense T20 Cricket: Watch four new teams battle in a series of high-energy matches.
- “Meet and Greet with Cricket Stars: Get a chance to meet some of the talented professional cricket players competing in the tournament, including Carlos Brathwaite, Raymon Reifer, Shamarh Brooks, and Chandrapaul Hemraj.
- “Family Fun Activities: Enjoy various games, food stalls, and a live DJ at the National Sports Centre grounds.
“The Ministry is committed to supporting funding for high performance athletes and teams to help showcase their skill, mastery, competitiveness, and sporting excellence to the region. As stated in the National Sports Policy, role models that inspire the community emerge from such regional successes, resulting in increased participation and engagement in sport.
“A key aim is also to increase the value of sport in the community by ensuring that sport is an intrinsic part of residents’ lives and that everyone is aware of the Government’s deep commitment to sport and physical activity.
“The Bermuda Smash Invitational T20 Tournament joins an exceptional line-up of recent international sporting events hosted on island including the 2023 ICC Men’s T20 World Cup Americas Qualifiers, the Butterfield Bermuda Championship PGA tour, SailGP, the USA Track & Field Bermuda Grand Prix 2024 and The Greg Hill Classic annual golf fundraiser.
