BSSF Middle School Track And Field Results
Saltus Grammar School successfully defending their title as Bermuda School Sports Federation Middle School track and field champions.
A spokesperson said, “The Pembroke school won the overall title despite finishing second in both the overall girls and boys divisions. Saltus won the championship with 587.50 points with the Whitney Institute coming in second with 554.50 points. Warwick Academy finished a distant third with 316 points. BHS won the girls division with the slimmest margin after finishing a half point ahead of Saltus. BHS finished the meet with 280 points with Saltus finishing on 279.5 followed by The Whitney Institute in third with 196.50 points. The Whitney Bulls led the charge in the boys division with 358 points. Saltus were 50 points back on 308 ahead of Warwick Academy who ended with 195.
“The top performer of the day was once again Zydon Lightbourne-Furbert who broke two of his own records in the over 13 boys division. The Warwick Academy student has now broken five records in the last two year. He bested his 200 meter record by one hundredth of a second, crossing the line in 22.53 seconds. He then shaved four hundredth off the 400 meter final when he stopped the clock at 52.71 seconds.
“Sukanya Jobson from Saltus was named the champion girl in the under 12 girls division after winning gold in the 400, 800 and 1500 meter races. School mate Leydi Raynor was close behind after winning the 100 meters and long jump. Raynor would come second to Alae Rochester from Sandys Secondary Middle School in the 200 meters. Rochester claimed silver medals in the 100 and 400 meters behind Raynor and Jobson respectively.
“Hasim Ming was named under 12 boys champion boy after claiming the rare 800 meter and turbo javelin double. The Whitney student had broken the javelin record last week before claiming the 800 meter gold and 1500 meter silver at the finals. Adam Barritt finished second in points after winning the sprinting 100 and 200 meter double. Barritt also finished fourth in the turbo javelin. The Whitney pair of Paz Lightbourne-Francis and A’Daj O’Brien also scored more than 20 points. Lightbourne-Francis won the 400 meters while finishing third in both the 100 and 200 meters. O’Brien won the shot put and finished second in the 100 and seventh in the turbo javelin. MSA’s Xander Romeo won the discus event and finished second in the shot put and sixth in the turbo javelin.
“Sandys Secondary Middle School had in triple gold medalist in Zakhya Scott in the under 13 girls division. Scott was fastest in the 100, 200 and 400 meter sprinting trifecta. Amaya Davis from Saltus Grammar School finished behind Scott on 23 points after winning the long jump and finishing second in the 100 meters and fourth in the 200 meters. Avery Taylor from BHS won double silver in the 400 and 800 meters and finished third in the 1500 meters. Whitney Institute’s Riana Robinson was a double winner in the division winning the 800 and 1500 meter events. C. Riley Martin won the under 13 boys division with double gold in the 200 and 400 meter races. He was denied a third gold by school mate Chanz Martin who pipped him at the line in the 100 meters. Chanz Martin also finished second to C. Riley Martin the 200 meters. Timothy Pearman accumulated 23 points for Whitney after winning the 800 meters, finishing second in the 400 meters and fourth in the 1500 meters.
“Sprinters continued to dominate in the over 13 girls division where Whitney’s Zyari Lawrence was named division champion. Lawrence outran all competitors in the 200 and 400 meters and finished second in the 100 meters. She was beaten in the 100 meters by Milan Gibbons-Thomas from BHS who also won the triple jump and finished third in the long jump. Saltus’ Kenzie Lawrence had a good day on the runway by winning the long jump and finishing second in the high and triple jump competitions. Gabriella Cechini was also a division double winner. The Somersfield Academy student finished on top in the 800 and 1500 meter races. Whitney’s Miyari Trott won the high jump and had two thirds in the 200 and 400 meter events.
“The over 13 boys champion boys title was shared by Lightbourne-Furbert and Saltus Grammar School’s Jordan Williams who leapt higher and further than all by winning the long, Triple and high jump events.
“Lightbourne-Furbert followed up his two record breaking performances with a third win in the 100 meters. Whitney’s Zhyon Samuels finished second in the 200 meters and high jump and third in the 100 meters.”
