Bus Schedule Adjusted Due To Training
The Department of Public Transport has advised that the weekday bus schedule will be adjusted this week to accommodate training for the new digital fare services.
A Government spokesperson said, “DPT administration has adjusted the schedule to accommodate approximately 80 operators for training on the pending integration of digital fare services from Monday, 20 May, through Thursday,23 May. This training is crucial for our operators to familiarize themselves with the new system and ensure a seamless transition for our passengers.
As the Minister of Transport Wayne Furbert announced, “The Ministry will unveil a groundbreaking evolution in our public transportation system within the next month—the forthcoming launch of the new digital fare media for buses and ferries.
Minister Furbert stated, “On Monday, 24 June, we are introducing phase one of the new digital fare media for buses and ferries. Phase one launch will introduce the following:
- “Passengers can conveniently buy tickets using their mobile phones through an app.
- “Once purchased, they can effortlessly board buses or ferries by simply displaying their digital ticket to the operators. Operators will be able to determine the type of fare purchased by the signal on the passenger’s screen, whether it is the type of zone purchased or an adult or child fare.
“As the transition to digital fare media is a phased approach, we will gradually introduce new features and services. This means that the option of purchasing and using the traditional fare will remain in place throughout the phases, ensuring a smooth transition for all passengers.
“The introduction of Digital Fare media is a significant step forward in our journey towards modernization and efficiency. This transformative initiative is designed to cater to the needs of both our local population and visitors, promising a seamless travel experience.”

“The Ministry will unveil a groundbreaking evolution in our public transportation system…”
“a groundbreaking evolution in our public transportation system” would be bus routes not being canceled for unknown reasons and every bus is properly maintained.
This could be done on the weekend. But no. Public inconvenience takes priority
I would surmise that training on the weekend would be costly. Suspect the cost of overtime for all the drives would be more costly than any bus revenue lost during the week.
What is the app, who owns it? What % of the fare goes into the govt funds as revenue, and what % goes into private pockets?
“Minister of Transport Wayne Furbert announced, “The Ministry will unveil a groundbreaking evolution in our public transportation system within the next month—the forthcoming launch of the new digital fare media for buses and ferries”
Well, he would know. He was the Minister for Transport in 1997. The more things change the more they stay the same.
