When contemplating school leadership, most people typically envision administrators like principals and deputy principals, as well as teachers, who prepare students for the challenges of the world. Student leaders on the other hand, can assist in developing and maintaining a culture of learning and social development.
Every day at CedarBridge Academy, there are students who exemplify the traits of authentic leaders that need nurturing. Recognizing these qualities, student leadership advisors from the National Honors Society, Peer Leaders, Prefects, and Junior Leaders organized a special awards assembly held on April 25, 2024. During the assembly, students were honored with certificates. Notably, some awardees didn’t hold specific leadership roles but significantly enriched the school community and served as exemplary role models, demonstrating a commitment to supporting their peers. Many of these exceptional students received multiple nominations from their teachers, including individuals such as Tajer Basden, Danasia Ennis, Damani Assing, Layla Rabain, Michael Scott, Noah Forbes, Daejun Butterfield, Justin Furbert-Wilkinson, and Dion Francis.
Ms. Angelita Outerbridge, Peer Leader Advisor, remarked, “It was an opportunity to spotlight these students among their peers and publicly recognize them for their leadership qualities.” She further noted that over eighty students were celebrated.
Ms. Shervelle Burch, Advisor for the National Honor Society [NHS], played a crucial role in coordinating the week’s activities. On April 26, 2024, all Prefects, NHS Members, Junior Student Leaders, and Peer Leaders actively participated in a leadership conference. The conference aimed to enhance leadership capabilities and foster teamwork among student leaders this was achieved through engaging sessions designed to strengthen leadership skills and promote effective collaboration. Advisors, Ms. Burch [NHS], Ms. Michelle Laylor [Prefect and Jr. Student Leader], and Ms. Outerbridge [Peer Leader], concur that developing leadership skills will contribute to students’ personal and academic development.
