SailGP teams have been gearing up for the Apex Group Bermuda Sail Grand Prix, with preparations in full swing as the event approaches this weekend.
A SailGP report said, “Preparations are well underway for this weekend’s racing return to Bermuda, with SailGP officially arriving on the island.
“The Tech Base, which hosts the league’s cutting edge F50s and athletes, has now been built and the F50s are being readied for crucial training time out on the water.
“Australia is testing its repaired F50 which sustained significant damage in Christchurch after hitting a race mark. They are joined on the water by the United States.
“The full hydrofoiling F50 fleet will hit the water to begin practice racing on Friday, before official racing begins at 2pm ADT on Saturday and Sunday. Teams will compete in a five fleet race format before the all-important three-boat, winner-takes-all Final.
“Fresh from a triumphant home win, New Zealand currently sits at the top of the season leaderboard – a full nine points clear of Australia in second. Spain meanwhile is currently in the crucial third position – the three highest ranked boats at the end of the season will proceed into the Championship deciding Grand Final.
“However, with just five points separating Spain in third and ROCKWOOL DEN in fifth, with France sandwiched in the middle, there’s everything to play for when racing gets underway.
“The Apex Group Bermuda Sail Grand Prix takes place on May 2/3, with racing from 2pm ADT.”
