Rick Wright’s Greenville Win In The Cup
Rick Wright’s Greenville Triumph defeated South Georgia Tormenta FC 3-2 at home in the second round of the USL Jägermeister Cup yesterday [May 11].
Lyam MacKinnon opened the scoring for the Triumph in the sixteenth minute; however, the visiting side struck twice before the interval in the 33rd and 40th minutes.
Triumph defender Jamie Smith scored twice in the second half, first with a free kick in the 51st minute and then from the penalty spot in the 67th minute.
Bermudian coach, Rick Wright, said: “I guess the soccer gods do come back and help people that put in a good shift.
“We lost last week, 92nd minute to [Forward] Madison and we had a good first half tonight.
“We kind of let off the gas a little bit after our first goal but went in the dressing room and really had a very good heart-to-heart with all the guys.
“They came back and showed out, and Jamie Smith was unbelievable.”
A former Saltus Grammar School student, Wright made appearances for the Bermuda and United States national teams.
He was appointed head coach of Greenville at the start of the season, having previously served as assistant coach for several years.
