Video: Jamaica Defeats Bermuda In Rugby
Jamaica narrowly defeated the Bermuda team by a score of 19-14 in a Rugby Americas North [RAN] Men’s XV’s tournament match in Jamaica.
America’s Rugby News report said, “Jamaica narrowly overcame Bermuda on Saturday. Played at the Bramwell Clarke Sports Complex in Ewarton, Jamaica, the Jamaica Crocs were 19-14 winners.
“The Jamaica Crocs started strongly. The team scored two tries in the opening ten minutes. First, hooker Owen Linton finished off good possession to be waiting on the wing for the score. Aaron Lowe converted from the wide angle.
“The second try was a set-piece move. From a defensive scrum, Jamaica spun the ball wide, putting Joshua Ridewood Williams through a hole. He ran into the opposition half before linking with Michael Facey. The fullback scored what was an unconverted try.
“Early play was not going Bermuda’s way. In addition to being 12-0 down, Robin Brickell badly missed an opportunity to open the account with his 15th minute penalty attempt. What followed was a second quarter wherein neither team scored points.
“Jamaica did not take long to expand on the 12-0 half-time lead. The Crocs scored their third, and final, try seven minutes after the interval. I came from a tap with hooker Linton rampaging his way over. Lowe made no mistake with the regulation conversion.
“Bermuda were out attached but they were not lying down. They were rewarded for persistence with Samir Tavares scoring after eight pick-and-go phases deep in the Jamaican 22.
“The converted try was followed by another seven minutes later. A rolling maul saw flanker Tahy-Jay Lynch over. Fullback Ja’Ke Simons converted for a 19-14 scoreline with 20 minutes left on he match clock. A scoreless final quarter followed.
“The match was a Rugby Americas North [RAN] Men’s XV’s tournament fixture. It followed Guyana’s 24-23 win over Trinidad & Tobago in April.”
