BEN Milestone Year & New Support For Horizons
The Bermuda Education Network [BEN] announced the completion of another successful year of our Horizons experiential learning program.
A spokesperson said, “This year [2023/24], every public primary school participated in a total of 180 field trips, with 2,594 students benefiting from these enriching experiences.
“Each field trip was accompanied by free transportation and classroom resources for teachers, ensuring the educational opportunities remain accessible to all.
“The Horizons program is funded entirely by donations and we wish to thank Kattegat Limited, The Peter Cundill Foundation, Ascot Group, SOMPO, Validus, Aspen Bermuda Limited, Hannover Re [Bermuda] Ltd, Fidelity International, Conyers, Edmund Gibbons Ltd and Wilton Reinsurance Limited, each of whose longstanding support has enabled us to enrich and extend the curriculum for public primary students and support teachers for several years.
“It gives us great pleasure to announce a new commitment from Oakley Capital Investments [OCI] which will further enhance and sustain the Horizons program with support for capacity building and curriculum development.
“Additionally, we would like to thank this year’s partner organizations Agra Living Institute, Bermuda Underwater Exploration Institute, Kaleidoscope Arts Foundation, the Bermuda Zoological Society, The St. George’s Historical Society and the St. David’s Historical Society for their role in providing exciting lessons which brought history and science to life for young learners.
“Finally, we wish to express our deep appreciation to Mrs. Latoya Pearman, who has managed and coordinated the Horizons program with dedication and excellence for the past two years. While she is stepping down from her current role, we are delighted to announce that she has accepted a position on our board of directors, where she will continue to contribute her expertise and passion for public education.
“BEN’s Horizons program has had a transformative impact since 2015 providing young students with unique learning opportunities that extend beyond the classroom. We look forward to another year inspiring the next generation of learners and supporting public school teachers with valuable opportunities and resources.”
