The Warwick Football Academy was back in action at the second day of the Texas International Cup.

The WFA U16 boys endured searing heat with 99 degree temperatures in Arlington, Texas to come away with a win and loss on match day two of the tournament.

In the opening match at 9:30 am, WFA would fall 2-0 to Sting Soccer Club from West Texas. The match was a close contest with both teams testing each other with skill and pace. Sting would take a 1-0 lead 2 minutes before halftime to seize control of the match. The 2nd half continued with a midfield battle, before Sting doubled their lead just after a mandatory water break due to the high temperatures.

Warwick had to quickly recover and replenish for the 2nd match which started at 3:30 pm with temperatures at the peak high for the day, with the team playing against Lubbock Soccer from Texas. WFA controlled the early proceedings creating multiple chances to score but could not find a way to beat the goalkeeper.

There were now two mandatory water breaks during each half to help keep players hydrated and safe from heat-related health risks.

At half time the teams remained deadlocked at 0-0. WFA would finally break down the resistance of the opposition when Jah’Zion Taylor scored his first goal for the tournament to give Warwick the lead. Taylor would add another goal along with a goal from Qash Lambert to help Warwick rebound.
