Paris is stepping up its preparations for the Olympic Games after organisers unveiled a display of the five Olympic rings mounted on the Eiffel Tower.

It is just 49 days until Bermuda’s athletes join more than 10,000 competitors from more than 200 nations at the Olympic Games in Paris – the largest sporting event organised in France.

The opening ceremony for the 30th edition of the Summer Games promises to be a jaw-dropping event and the first to take place outside a stadium, with athletes floating down the Seine on boats on July 26.

“The Olympic rings are now live in Paris, displayed on our most iconic monument: the Eiffel Tower, created by ArcelorMittal and coordinated with the Eiffel Tower, this giant installation will illuminate the City of Lights from now until the end the Games,” Paris2024 wrote on X today [June 7].

“The Games are wide open – let the spectator moments begin!”

Bermuda will be represented in Paris by triathletes Flora Duffy, the defending champion, Erica Hawley and Tyler Smith, rower Dara Alizadeh, and sailor Adriana Penruddocke.

Swimming siblings Emma and Jack Harvey have met the qualifying standard to be considered for selection by the Bermuda Olympic Association, who is expected to announce its team on June 24.
