Crystal Holdipp Releases First Gospel Song
When Bermudian gospel singer Crystal Holdipp first recorded her song, Moving Forward, with noted pianist John Woolridge, she admits she lacked the confidence to release it.
Thirteen years later, Ms Holdipp believes she is finally ready to share her song, which she hopes will “encourage and inspire” people to keep moving forward “regardless of what your past looks like.”
Initially, she penned Moving Forward as a poem before recording it after sharing the words with Mr Woolridge, who composed and arranged the music.
“It feels like the right time for it to be released,” Ms Holdipp told Bernews.
“Back then, I lacked confidence in my ability and wasn’t sure about releasing the song. Would my voice be accepted?
“When I heard it again this year, I heard it differently. I’m ready to release it now.”
Ms Holdipp took a four-year break from singing after being diagnosed with clinical depression and anxiety, which she said she has suffered since childhood.
She recently covered worship songs such as Cece Winan’s Jesus You’re Beautiful and Lauren Daigle’s You Say on StarMaker – an international karaoke competition platform.
“I’ve been in places where I was stuck; it seemed I wouldn’t get out of the things I was experiencing,” she added.
“Sometimes I felt I was taking small steps forward only to take several steps back.
“That’s when I encountered God. He made me realise I don’t have to stay stuck and can move forward. This song grew out of that.”
