WFA U16 Win Texas International Cup Opener
Warwick Football Academy’s U16 boys team opened the Texas International Cup with a 3-2 victory over the Arkansas Comets, thanks to goals from Sami Carolo and Keori Leverock.
Richard Todd said, “Warwick Football Academy opens play in the Texas International Cup with a 3-2 win over the Arkansas Comets.
“The u16 boys WFA team began participation in the Arlington, Texas tournament today, securing 3 points from their opening group game.
“Sami Carolo opened the scoring early in the first half, before Keori Leverock doubled the lead. Arkansas would be the beneficiary of an own goal when an attempted clearance by the WFA defender was sliced over the head of the stranded goal keeper. The half would end with Warwick clinging to a 2-1 lead.
“WFA continued to battle in the rising temperatures during the 2nd half and were the dominant team. Sami Carolo would restore the two goal lead for the Bermuda team with a well taken goal to complete his brace. A host of missed chances by the WFA would set up a nervy finish when Arkansas capitalized on an errant back pass to close the gap to 3-2.
“The referee’s whistle to end the game was a welcomed relief for an exhausted WFA, who will now focus on recovery and preparation for a double header on match day 2 when they take on the Texas Sting and Lubbock Soccer Club.”
