Etienne Wolffe Assisting At Olympics In Paris
[Written by Stephen Wright]
Bermudian Etienne Wolffe said he is proud to be helping the island’s athletes in any way he can as the team’s National Olympic Committee [NOC] assistant at the Olympic Games in Paris.
Wolffe, a fluent French speaker, is the first Bermudian NOC assistant at a major international sporting event.
The 18-year-old is living with the Bermuda athletes and officials at the sprawling Olympic Village in Seine-Saint-Denis, just outside Paris, and has been attending the events as part of his all-encompassing role.
“Every day, I’m delegated tasks to perform and assist athletes, officials, guests, and support staff,” Wolffe told Bernews.
“Among the tasks is gathering equipment for the athletes to benefit them and help them perform at the highest level.
“I’m helping ensure the team is prepared daily for their events. It’s been a fantastic experience!”
Wolffe, who has a Bermudian father and French mother, is a former Warwick Academy student and attends the University of Ottawa.
He applied for the position through the Paris 2024 Organising Committee.
There were more than 300,000 applications for 45,000 volunteer positions at the Paris 2024 Olympic and Paralympic Games.
Prior to the Games, chef de mission Katura Horton-Perinchief said, Etienne’s fluency in French, familiarity with France, organisational skills, ability to work under pressure, and passion for sport, will be an asset to Bermuda’s Olympic team as our athletes shoulder the mammoth task of providing excellent sporting representation for the country in Paris. We are grateful to have him on board.”
Bernews will be providing comprehensive coverage of Bermuda’s athletes in the coming weeks.
