Oliver Betschart continued competing in the 2024 R&A Junior Open in Scotland.

A spokesperson said, “The second round of The R&A Junior Open was played in typical Scottish conditions with cooler temperatures and a variable breeze coming off the Firth of Clyde providing a different challenge for the young players at the Kilmarnock [Barassie] par 72.

“Starting out in 1259pm tee time in the middle of the windy and rain, Oliver Betschart dropped a few shots on the opening holes. He went on to make two more bogeys in the opening nine holes to card a six over score of 42. It was however, a tale of two nines, as Betschart battled the conditions. He rolled in a 30 foot birdie putt on the par 4 eleventh.

“He would go on to post another birdie and a single bogey on the back nine to come home in a one under back nine score of 34. He would produce a battling 76 to be well inside the cut line. He currently sits in a tie for fourteenth place with a two round total score of 150. The cut was made with the top 45 competitors with a two round score of 165. Overnight Aidan Lawson from Scotland, followed up first round score of 70 with a second round 71 and two a two round score of 141.

Betschart stated, “The conditions at the beginning of the round were difficult with the wind and colder temperatures. I am happy with how I stayed patient and grinded out there today. I gave myself some chances, and made some great par saves coming down the stretch. I am looking forward to tomorrow, and giving it good go to push myself up the leaderboard.”
