Bermuda rower Dara Alizadeh – who is being cheered on by a 32-strong contingent of his family and friends who have traveled to Paris to support him –  is hoping to build upon his performance in the heats as he prepares to race again tomorrow [July 28] at the Olympic Games in Paris.

Alizadeh will take to the water for the men’s single sculls repechage and needs a top-two finish to advance to the next round.

He will be up against Abdalla Ahmed, of Sudan, Vladislav Yakovlev, of Kazakhstan, Chun Chui Hin, of China, and Sid Ali Boudina, of Algeria.

Alizadeh finished fifth in heat four today in 7min 23.70sec.

“I executed pretty well,” he told Bernews. “I have to be aware it’s a long regatta.

“I was aware of the situation after 1,000-1,250 metres. I saw the cost of getting myself back into a position to advance.

“The risk and reward didn’t pan out. I was like, ‘Let’s shut it down and prepare for tomorrow.’ I was pretty happy with it.”

The athlete is making his second Olympic appearance for Bermuda, becoming the first Bermudian rower to make two Olympic appearances.
