City Of Hamilton Prepares for Hurricane Ernesto

As Hurricane Ernesto approaches, the administrative offices of the Corporation of Hamilton in City Hall and at the Works Depot on Laffan Street will be closing at 12.00pm tomorrow [Aug 16].

A spokesperson said, “Due to the impending arrival of Hurricane Ernesto, the administrative offices of the Corporation of Hamilton in City Hall and at the Works Depot on Laffan Street will be closing at 12pm on Friday August 16th and will reopen on Monday, August 19th [or until it is deemed safe to reopen].

“Both art galleries in City Hall will also be closed throughout this duration.

“All City trash should be out for collection by 9:30am [last collection will be at 11am] on Friday August 16th and all bins must be secured after this time. There will be no trash collection until after the hurricane has passed and it is safe to resume collection. There will be no further oil collection until after the hurricane.

“The City of Hamilton reminds City businesses to prepare early and secure their properties to minimize any damage. Anything that can become a potential projectile must be stored safely, including wheelie bins. The public is reminded that bringing household trash from outer parishes and dumping it in the City is illegal. Anyone caught illegally dumping trash will be prosecuted.

“All City barrier system car parks will be offline [with the barrier up and pay machines covered] first thing in the morning on Friday August 16th.

“City parks will be closed from 1pm on Friday August 16th and will reopen when safe to do so. The City’s public bathrooms will officially close at 11am on Friday August 16th and will reopen when it is safe to do so.

“Motorists are asked to please exercise extreme caution when approaching City traffic junctions following the hurricane as signs and signals may be missing or damaged.

“City crews are busy clearing City storm drains to lessen the risk of any potential flooding.

“City businesses and residents are encouraged to check the City’s social media platforms on Facebook, X [Twitter] and Instagram for any City updates as the storm approaches as well as post-hurricane.”
