Minister Weeks On Shooting Incident

August 25, 2024 | 9 Comments

“This was a heinous and cowardly act of violence directed at our police officers last night,” Minister of National Security Michael Weeks said.

Minister Weeks said, “We are grateful that no one was hurt during this dangerous incident. This is a threat to law and order, and we must all do our part to bring the culprits to justice.

“This kind of criminal behaviour has no place in our society, and we will not tolerate attacks on those who are committed to keeping our communities safe.

“I urge anyone with information about this incident to come forward and assist the authorities by speaking to the police or contacting Crimestoppers at 800-8477. Together, we can ensure justice is served.”

In a previous statement the police said, ““Shortly after 12am on Saturday 24th of August 2024 police were responding to an incident in the vicinity of Khyber Pass, Warwick.

“As the officers approached the junction with Quarry Lane, the officers observed two males riding a motorcycle in a southerly direction along Khyber Pass, when the passenger discharged a firearm at police.

“Officers began pursuit which eventually lead to shots being fired. The suspects made good their escape.

“Witnesses are being asked to contact Detective Chief Inspector Derricka Burns on 2471062 or 7170921.”

    • Who says:

      PLP nothing but wet blankets.

Get serious or get off the pot. WORDS DO NOTHING you muppet.

Under their watch due to destroying education,(they just did it again closing two of the best performing primary schools) allowing Bermuda companies to be bought by foreign companies destroying education and destroying meaningful opportunities, that’s all the PLP do.

Please all talk, they will not catch them bermuda loves to talk especially when it comes to matters of security, they can catch a drunk driver but when it comes to these kinds of crimes murder etc, they are a bunch of clowns!!

  3. MADDOG says:

Its all good and well to say we don’t condone the behaviour and have nice supportive articles in the paper saying so but how is that helping? What we need is a leader and a government that has the balls to stand up and ask for help…bring in Jamaica or UK forces and bang on every door …they don;t care who your momma or your grannie is…clearly we can’t handle it on our own and we are too small an island to have no control over this. STAND UP AND TAKE ACTION…and yes you likely loose votes because of it….because “it’s not fair” and “it’s not my grown son’s fault” – but get your head of of the sand…be brave and make the hard decisions….that’s what good leadership does…

Applause, Applause MADDOG. I have been saying this for years – we need outside help because what we have in place is definitely not working.

“be brave and make the hard decisions….that’s what good leadership does…”

Perhaps, but popular leaders give their constituents what they want, or at least appear to do so.

    • PAC MAN says:

Talking big has no credibility or recomedation .

Be very carefull what you ask for, as this island has a reputation to maintain ,more precious than all the gold in Fort Knox.

    • Joe Bloggs says:

      “WE NEED OUTSIDE HELP!!”

Do you remember what happened to Police Commissioner Coxall when he brought in outside assistance to enforce the law in Bermuda?
