Officers Attend Cybercrime Meeting In Brazil
Detective Chief Inspector Jason Smith and Acting Chief Inspector Mark Tomlinson of the Bermuda Police Service [BPS] are currently in Brazil where they are attending the 9th Americas Working Group meeting on Cybercrime.
A police spokesperson said, “The officers addressed the gathering on measures and countermeasures implemented by the [BPS] to deal with cybercrime, which is a global concern.
“The BPS works closely with our international partners to and prevent and detect, cybercrime through the sharing of information.
“Most recently, the BPS played a significant role in the dismantling of an international gang of credit card fraudsters, after two of their members were arrested here on island.
“Intelligence acquired from the suspects following those arrests has been instrumental in the furtherance of efforts to bring other members to justice.”
When does Bermuda learn of the consequences of the cyber attack on the Government, with unknown damage or costs? Why is Burt keeping it a secret? What is he hiding? Was he involved? Who will act on behalf of the people of Bermuda to find the answer, and when?
Probably for the same reasons PATI requests on covid decisions get as much information released to the public – it would be too embarrassing for politicians. Just remember, Mr. Big was in charge of both debacles.
“When does Bermuda learn of the consequences of the cyber attack on the Government, with unknown damage or costs?”
I predict never.
Hillarious! A free taxpayer-funded trip to Brazil of all places. So why is the BPS cyber team (all two of them I believe) not in Brazil?
“A police spokesperson said, “The officers addressed the gathering on measures and countermeasures implemented by the [BPS] to deal with cybercrime, which is a global concern.”
Hilarious! The BPS was given a straightforward pre-emptive plan to reduce the risk of cyber-attacks and failed to do anything.
what exactly is your gripe…
My observations are not a gripe. But since you did not get it the first time:
1. Why did the cyber team, the police who ACTUALLY DO THE WORK, not go?
According to the BPS webpage under “About Us,” Inspector Jason Smith has nothing to do with cybercrime and has never worked in cybercrime. He is not listed as a Chief Inspector.
According to the BPS webpage, Acting Chief Inspector Mark Tomlinson is not even listed. He does not even come up in a search.
The BPS webpage lists a person who I know retired a few years ago. Looks like some updates are needed.
2. Why was a simple solution to reduce the risk of cybercrime and cyber attacks ignored?
