“As the officers approached the junction with Quarry Lane, the officers observed two males riding a motorcycle in a southerly direction along Khyber Pass, when the passenger discharged a firearm at police.
“Officers began pursuit which eventually lead to shots being fired. The suspects made good their escape.
“Officers are presently searching the area for suspects as well as forensically processing the scene.
“The length of Khyber Pass has been closed until police release the scene.
“Witnesses are being asked to contact Detective Chief Inspector Derricka Burns on 2471062 or 7170921.
Update 10.19am: Shadow Minister for National Security Ben Smith said, “While I am thankful no one was hurt in last night’s gun incident, I am shocked to learn that perpetrators were brazen enough to shoot at the Police. Sadly, this reckless behaviour demonstrates a new level of low among these criminals that I didn’t think was possible after the incidences we have endured over the past few weeks.
“But one thing is certain—sooner or later their luck will run out.
“Residents of Bermuda, I implore you to have the courage to come forward if you know who is committing gun crimes.
“These perpetrators will brag to someone that they got away after shooting at the police. If you hear it you need to tell someone. This callous level of crime will lead to innocent bystanders and our hard working police officers being harmed. These cowards must be stopped.
“It takes a village and Bermuda needs to return to the community it once was.”
It is time to arm the police.
Appalling! The time has come to flush out these imbeciles. It is time to revamp our actions and goals. These fools are a minority who need to be stopped at all cost. Updated laws dedicated surveillance of them which is constant.
Prevent them from freely roaming our streets. Lists of names associates license plates on all. Family members girlfriends aceboys the whole lot. Tap their phones.
Make their lives unbearable. Limit their movements. Flush them out to show their accomplices there are consequences for their involvement. Haul family members into court.
It is time for brute force on anyone enabling these miscreants
Only a tiny bit longer and this place is finished .
People have been dumbed down so much it’s embarrassing to be Bermudian anymore.
Commonly dropped remarks on social media .
‘Tourists are going to start bypassing this place’ .. replies .. ‘It’s worse where they come from’ and ‘It’s not just Bermuda, it’s the whole world’ or ‘All the violence and crime doesn’t stop them from going down south’.
This from people who are directly affected by this , people who should be ashamed , frightened and deeply concerned about our island . Instead they deflect by saying it’s as bad everywhere , and in fact it’s not but that fallacy becomes their coping mechanism .
Bermuda needs a police force and NOT a police service. Armed and extremely DANGEROUS!!
It is time to arm police so they can do their jobs.
Arm the police this will not happen again.
We need to bring back and APPLY the death penalty as well as use of the Cat-o-Nine.
They have arms already, they still will not stop anything, only thing they are good at is catching speeders and drunk drivers!! Bunch of clowns
A total lack of respect for the law and those who are supposed to enforce it.
Dear the police to shoot back at the same time whoever shot @ dem smh
