‘Red Lane’ App Aimed At Helping Travelers
A new app, Red Lane, developed by local Phil Butterworth, is aimed at “streamlining the customs declaration process for travellers.”
A spokesperson said, “It has been launched on the Apple App Store, and it’s already beginning to gain traction. Designed to allow travellers to calculate their duty electronically using photos of receipts or manual entry, Red Lane offers a solution that simplifies the often daunting process of calculating customs duties.”
Mr. Butterworth developed the app independently, driven by the demand among travelers for a more efficient way to manage customs declarations.
“I knew there was a significant need for this kind of tool,” Mr. Butterworth said. “I wanted to create something that would truly benefit the community and potentially the officials processing the declarations.”
A spokesperson said, “Red Lane allows users to take photos of their receipts, upload purchases into respective categories, and instantly calculate the total duties owed. This innovative feature not only saves travelers time but also removes much of the guesswork from the process.”
As Mr. Butterworth explained, “My goal was to make travel easier and less stressful for everyone. Red Lane gives people the ability to plan ahead and avoid the last-minute rush and confusion.”
By providing a digital solution for customs declarations, Red Lane aims to contribute to the government’s vision of a more efficient and technologically advanced Bermuda. Mr. Butterworth shared, “though the app is not presently affiliated with the Government, I saw an opportunity for progression and hope that it will be a tool that proves helpful to all.”
Following its iOS launch, Red Lane has already begun to attract attention and positive feedback from users and Mr. Butterworth is open to receiving suggestions on anything that will make the user experience better. He is now focused on expanding the app to Android, actively seeking testers to help refine the app for its release on the Google Play Store.
Mr. Butterworth expressed his excitement for the app’s future, saying, “I’m thrilled with the early response to Red Lane and I am eager to continue its promotion. I believe this app will be an invaluable tool not just for locals, but for any visitor navigating customs on our island.”
