Southampton Parish Council Scholarships
The Southampton Parish Council awarded scholarships to Southampton Parish students – Nicholas Hendrickson, Tiffany Smith, Denver Tucker, Rickai Lightbourne Jr., Nia Outerbridge, Koa Goodchild, Sanjayah Allwood, and Noah Hayward – to assist with their further education.
A spokesperson said, “The Southampton Parish Council recently awarded Scholarships to students of Southampton Parish to assist with their further education.”
Scholarship Committee Chairperson Corey Butterfield stated: “In anticipation of assisting more families this year, Council held a fund-raising golf tournament in March to boost the Scholarship Fund. Notwithstanding that increase, as this year we received the most applications in recent memory, the Committee asked the full Council to allocate even more funds. We are grateful that Council Members doubled the Fund for 2024 allowing us to assist further students and families in Southampton.”
The spokesperson said, “This year’s Recipients are:
- Mr. Nicholas Hendrickson a sincere young man who has overcome several life challenges and is pursuing a Bachelor’s Degree in Geography at Wilfred Laurier University.
- Ms. Tiffany Smith, an aspiring Paediatrician pursuing a Bachelor of Science Degree at Oakwood University.
- Mr. Denver Tucker who represented BDA at the 2024 Carifta Games; a talented student- athlete undertaking a Bachelor’s Degree in Physiology at Florida State University.
- Mr. Rickai Lightbourne Jr., a creative storyteller and driven entrepreneur pursuing a Bachelor of Arts in Animation at Southern Adventist University.
- Ms. Nia Outerbridge who is very community-minded and an aspiring Forensic Pathologist undertaking a Bachelor of Science at Dalhousie University.
- Ms. Koa Goodchild, a National team footballer pursuing a Bachelor of Science at Howard University who is making an impact while also playing for her university.
- Ms. Sanjayah Allwood, an empathetic, community-driven young person pursuing a Bachelor of Science in Health & Social Work at University of Bolton. And
- Mr. Noah Hayward, a creative with varied extracurricular activities, pursuing a Bachelor of Science Degree in Forensic Science at Ontario Tech University.”
Scholarship Committee Member Mr. Arnold Todd stated: “It is rewarding to support young people who are clever, committed, and driven by a higher purpose. Every Applicant had quite strong credentials and during our deliberations, Committee members agreed that given the perspectives and performances of the Applicants, contrary to what is often assumed, we are very optimistic about Southampton’s and Bermuda’s future.”
