Governor Attends Olympic Games In Paris

Governor Rena Lalgie said the island can be “incredibly proud” of the Bermuda athletes competing in the pinnacle of their sports at the Olympic Games in Paris.
There are eight athletes representing the island at the Paris Games: triathletes Dame Flora Duffy, Erica Hawley and Tyler Smith, swimmers Emma Harvey and Jack Harvey, rower Dara Alizadeh, sailor Adriana Penruddocke and triple jumper Jah-Nhia Perinchief.
“It’s been wonderful to see such a strong and diverse team representing Bermuda at the Olympics,” the Governor told Bernews.
“It’s always great to see the international sporting community come together, and Bermuda is definitely on the sporting map.
“Bermuda can be incredibly proud of its athletes and the entire team sitting behind them helping them reach this stage – family, friends and coaches.”
The Governor arrived in Paris this week and attended the women’s and men’s triathlon yesterday [July 31] to support Duffy, Hawley and Smith.
“We all had our fingers crossed the triathlons would go ahead after all the hard work, effort and preparation that’s gone into the event,” said the Governor, referring to the postponement of the men’s race the previous day because of pollution levels in the Seine River.
“To have three triathletes representing Bermuda is pretty special. It was great to see Dame Flora Duffy compete – she’s an inspiration to us all. I’m looking forward to taking in more of the action.”
