Somerset’s bowlers had St George’s all in a spin during their 226-run victory in Cup Match at the Somerset Cricket Club on Friday [August 2].
The holders retained their trophy with a convincing performance, led by Kamau Leverock with bat, scoring 153 in the first innings and the bowling of spinners Dion Stovell and Derrick Brangman.
Off-spinner Stovell ripped through the heart of the St George’s batting line-up in both innings, claiming seven for 27 in the first and five for 62 in the second.
Meanwhile, left-arm orthodox spinner Brangman, who took one for 30 in St George’s first innings, played a crucial role in Somerset’s win in the second innings, picking up four for 52.
Dominic Sabir, who also bowls off-spin, claimed one for three in St George’s first innings.
Of the 20 wickets Somerset took to secure victory, 18 were accounted for by spin bowling.
