Bermudians In UK Invited To Networking Event
The Government of Bermuda London Office invites Bermudian students and recent graduates resident in the UK who are interested in History and Humanities to attend a networking event in London, where Senior Lecturer of Black History, Bermudian Dr. Kristy Warren, will discuss opportunities and experiences.
A Government spokesperson said, “The event will be held on Friday, October 11, 2024, from 4.00 pm onwards, at a venue in Central London. This event will provide Bermudians active in this field in the UK a chance to engage with their peers and discuss past experiences, current projects, and possible paths for future careers. Dr. Kristy Warren is Senior Lecturer at the University of Lincoln. Dr Warren researches the socio-political history of British colonialism and its afterlives in Bermuda, the Caribbean and Britain.
“Her most recent research project [funded by a BA/Leverhulme Small Research Grant] was entitled Seeking Charles Wotten: Before the Liverpool ‘Race Riots’ of 1919. Dr Warren works with cultural institutions to help create content and programming that better reflect the histories, experiences, and desires of marginalised groups in the UK. She has worked on a number of research projects including the ‘Legacies of British-Slave Ownership’ project at UCL, the ‘Common Cause’ and ‘Bigger Picture’ projects at the University Nottingham, and ‘MSN in Guyana’s jails’ project at the University of Leicester.”
UK Representative for the Government of Bermuda, Ms Kimberley Durrant said, “The London Office is proud to provide support to Bermudian students overseas who have an ambition to learn more about Bermuda’s history. The work of Dr Kristy Warren is inspirational to us all and speaks to the importance of Bermuda’s historical impact while highlighting the strength of our diaspora in the UK. We urge those who wish to attend to register with the London Office no later than Friday, 4 October 2024.”
The Government spokesperson said, “The London Office notes that sign up can be done via https://bdalondonoffice.co.uk/ by clicking on ‘Register with us’ under the ‘Bermudians in the UK’ tab. Invitations will be sent out via e-mail to those who have registered.
