Charity Golf Tournament To Be Held On Friday
The Wollaton Park Captains Charity Open is set to be held on Friday [Sept 13], with proceeds to benefit cancer-related charities.
A spokesperson said, “For more than a century, Bermuda’s biggest fans have been our repeat visitors who have fallen in love with our beloved country.
“Ever wonder what motivates a person[s] or families to travel to the same place one or two times a year? Bermuda is a country that has benefited from the repeat visitor phenomenon for more than a century. People travel for various reasons and our tiny island home’s beauty is so diverse it provides many opportunities and reasons for our overseas guests to fall in love with our island.
“Not to mention the impact of our people and our propensity to make our visitors feel at home in Bermuda.
“The BOGGS Golf Group epitomize the power that relationships have in motivating persons travel habits. These ladies are not to dissimilar to hundreds of thousands of golfers traveling weekly as individuals or in small or large groups to fellowship around golf. This group’s annual pilgrimage to Bermuda was interrupted due to COVID but their love for Bermuda has not waned.

“The support from Bermuda has been amazing, led by The St. George’s Club Hotel, who donated a four night stay in one bedroom cottage for two and ignited a barrage of support from golf courses and restaurants to make the on island experience memorable. Rounds of golf for two at Port Royal, Belmont and Five Forts [St. Regis] supported with meals for two at Bella Vista, White Horse Tavern and Wahoo made for an amazing value-added Bermuda holiday experience.
“Once in Bermuda, the recipients host will be former PGA European Tour player Kim Swan, who will ensure they are met and transferred to and from the airport and have an enjoyable experience.
“The St. George’s Club Hotel Golf Experience showcases the historic town as an ideal self contained golf community that is in close proximity to great golf courses, restaurants, beaches, historic forts and other amenities.
“The UK Bermuda Fam Trip Experience in March 2024 built lasting relationship between persons with a common interest in golf. The group of 25 influential golfers hailed from different parts of the UK – Golf Professionals, PGA Officials from Yorkshire PGA, BBO PGA, PGA Southern Region, Hampshire PGA, together with Lady Captains from various regions in Kent, Hampshire, and Nottinghamshire.
“In Bermuda, we are seeing the benefits of the amazing bonds formed being transported to golf communities across the UK where awareness about Bermuda is growing.
“The Wollaton Park Captains Charity Open on Friday, September 13th, 2024 is the pinnacle event for the two Captains of Wollaton Park Golf Club’s year long tenure. Because of the Lady Captain’s affinity for Bermuda, during her participation in the Bermuda UK Golf Fam Trip, the Bermuda Golf Link Society agreed to sponsor the putting green and promote Bermuda and Dark n Stormies, with the proceeds going to cancer patients.
“Marie Curie, the cancer end of life treatment charity, and prostate cancer would be the charities to benefit from the proceeds. Former Bermuda resident Eve Montgomerie will manage the Dark n Stormy Charity Putting Competition, with proceeds supporting worthy cancer charities.
“We are thankful that Clyde Best joined us a Bonefish Grill at the Royal Naval Dockyard as our host for the welcome reception sponsored by the Ministry of Tourism, Culture and Sport. These connections set the stage for other connections that mushroom.”
