There will be at least four candidates for the Constituency 36 Sandys North by-election — which will be held next month — with the FDM’s Marc Bean, the OBA’s Carl Neblett, the PLP’s Reverend Dr. Emily Gail Dill and Independent Cire Bean all set to contest the election.

Looking at the past results the seat has, to date, always been won by the PLP, with winning margins ranging from a high of just over 66% of the vote in 2017, to a low of 50.51%, where the PLP won the seat by eight votes in 2012.

In the 2003 and 2007 general elections the PLP earned over 60% of the vote against candidates from the UBP. The 2012 general election saw the closest the seat has ever been, with the PLP winning with just 50.51% of the vote against an OBA candidate.

The 2017 general election saw the PLP return to winning the seat with over 60% of the vote, and the 2020 general election saw a three-way contest with the PLP’s Kathy Lightbourne-Simmons — who recently resigned prompting this by-election — winning the seat with 59.04% of the vote, the FDM’s Marc Bean placing second with 25.34% of the vote and the OBA’s Jeff Sousa finishing in third with 15.62% of the vote.

Bermuda Sandys North C36 past election results

The past results all reflect general elections, whereas the upcoming election will be a by-election and the first time since the one seat system was in place that the constituents will have the ability to choose between four different candidates representing three different political parties and one independent.

Nomination Day is on September 19th, so technically speaking there could possibly be another independent announced before then, however as it stands now there will be four candidates in the Constituency 36 Sandys North by-election, which will be held on October 4th.

  1. Thus is interesting says:

And exciting. Good luck and best wishes to the candidates.

  2. Eyes wide open says:

This result will tell the UBPoba what the real Bermuda thinks about them.

    • Joe Bloggs says:

I think you mean the UBPLP. After all, it is the UBPLP that has Wayne Fubert and Kim Swan as sitting members. Both Wayne Fubert and Kim Swan are former leaders of the UBP.

      • Eyes wide open says:

You might want to go find some more black surrogates to replace them. You already know the UBPoba or as you call it OBA isn’t winning.

        • Wrathchild says:

The only thing you PLP supporters have is the race card. A mere form a deflection to try and divert attention away from the fact that the PLP has desecrated Bermuda in every possible way, and THIS version of the PLP is the most incompetent, inept, corrupt, and clueless of them all. The amount of Bermudians that have had to and continue to leave because they can’t afford the Bermuda created by their beloved government is unconscionable. You lot don’t vote for the PLP because they’re a good, ethical, and competent government, that would make you all stupid. And I hate to break it to you buddy, but there are currently two former UBP leaders in the PLP, which in fact now makes them the official UBPLP. You can’t deny that. Your comment to the contrary only proves your desperation.

          • X oba voter says:

You mean the only thing the UBP/OBA does is place black face surrogates at the frontline of a majority white weak pathetic political party. You keep using the same MO every election. A party that’s a victim of it’s own political bull crap.

          • Truth says:

They have their overwhelming homophobia as well, which is funny considering the makeup of the PLP. LMFAO
This is why the world laughs at us.

            • Rob says:

Considering how the OBA tries to paint the party with Black faces every election. It’s actually embarrassing and only results in voters dismissing the party even more.

  3. Claudia Stone says:

How is it that the C36 Bye- election is taking place at the church where the PLP’s candidate Dr. Emily Gail Dill preaches at? Isn’t this considered a conflict of interest? If this were to happen for each of the other candidates- having the By- election take place at their work place, and where they were based, I’m sure that the venue would be changed instantly and a huge outcry from the PLP. The poli- tricks continue..

    • Wrathchild says:

Wait, what?! How much more corrupt can they possibly be? Who allowed this. The PLP possess the ethics and morals of an alley cat. I pray they get booted out. And if they don’t, it only proves how stupid Bermudians truly are.

      • hmm says:

Bermudians know a racist party when they see it. OBA is it’s own worst enemy.

      • LOL says:

The only prayers that you had went out the door when black voters left the party. Now continue looking like a Santa Clause.

  4. Claudia Stone says:

Undertaking that there is no legislation to change the venue, this is something that should be addressed, particularly as the PLP candidate, Dr. Dill and her husband reside on the property of the by- election.

    • Joe Bloggs says:

Why would the PLP Government want to address the situation?. If polling stations are at the homes of PLP candidates that could well have a motivating effect on voters.
