The “Government is preparing to invest additional funds to address critical social issues through a set of significant initiatives that will be introduced in the House of Assembly on Friday,” the Premier announced this evening.

“We are listening, and we are acting to build a better Bermuda with fairness, opportunity and care for all,” said the Premier David Burt.

A government spokesperson said, “The public will recall that in July, during his “Address to Bermuda”, the Premier, pledged that “your government will focus its efforts on implementing additional ways in which it can intervene to provide more relief for you and your family.”

“The Premier also shared that “when the House of Assembly resumes in September, we will present a mid-year budget review containing measures that will deliver a meaningful difference in the lives of Bermudians now.”

“Today, Premier Burt announced that the Government is preparing to invest additional funds to address critical social issues through a set of significant initiatives that will be introduced in the House of Assembly on Friday.

“As Bermuda’s economy continues to show progress on many fronts, the Premier emphasised that many Bermudians still feel left behind, however d the government is committed to ensuring that the benefits of economic growth and increased tax revenue are invested to address pressing social needs.

“Key areas of focus will include increasing investment in public safety, enhancing support for mental health and community services, providing additional resources for educators and social workers, and investing in care for our seniors. Premier Burt stressed that these efforts are essential to improving the daily lives of Bermudians and ensuring a more equitable society.

“The Premier reiterated that these initiatives are part of the Government’s broader strategy to ensure that the benefits of Bermuda’s progress are shared by all, not just a few.

“We are focused on real solutions that improve the everyday lives of Bermudians,” he said. “From supporting the most vulnerable in our community to improving public safety and mental health support, we are working to build a better Bermuda with fairness, opportunity and care for all.”

The spokesperson added, “The full agenda will be revealed when Parliament reconvenes on September 20th and 27th (respectively), when the Cabinet will outline the specific measures the Government will implement as part of the Mid-Year Review. In the meantime, Bermudians are encouraged to stay engaged and informed as the Government continues to prioritise the issues that matter most to them.

“We are listening,” Premier Burt said. “Even though there is much progress and much going right with Bermuda, not enough Bermudians feel the benefits of our growing economy. We are committed to changing that.

“In my address to Bermuda in July, I said that Ministers would be working throughout the summer to bring a package that meets the community’s need for additional resources to tackle anti-social behaviour and confront a mental health crisis. The people of Bermuda will now see the results and reap the benefits of that work.”

The Premier concluded, “Our goal is simple: to make sure that Bermuda’s success is felt by all Bermudians, and we will not stop until we achieve this vision.”

    Election coming.

These issues have been failing for over decades. Mental health has been ignored far too long as well as been neglected.
Seniors have been crying and moaning forever.
Safety with CCTV another area the people of Bermuda have been requested assistance.

We need new leadership and rebooting of misogynistic roles in parties. Look around the world and see major issues are our problems. Our roads are death traps our schools are failing our light has dimmed because of ineffective governance.

We demand leaders who want to make a difference not a buck

  2. Yep says:

Burt talked about a balanced budget, since then he has decided to spend more money from our pensions or through borrowing in order to try to cling to power.

THIS HAS TO STOP! THIS IS WHY WE HAVE THIRD WORLD ROADS! A BROKEN CAUSEWAY, CONSTANT BUS CANCELLATIONS! A NON EXISTANT RECORDING STUDIO! A NICE NEW FLEET OF CARS FOR MINISTERS AND UNAFORDABLE LIVING in Bermuda. The PLP are creating this mess that they now want to put a bandaid on. It”ll wash off. There were plenty of jobs and opportunities before the PLP started abusing power.

Vote these abusers of power OUT.

Pretty obvious that any revenue from the Corporate Income Tax will also be spent/wasted on more *social* programmes. If the economy was doing so well as Hayward says, these give aways would not be needed. Just spend, spend spend. No maintenance, no repairs no new bridges just votes.

“If the economy was doing so well as Hayward says …”

      Really?

    • watching says:

I beg to differ. I would think it is because the economy actually IS doing well that the government will be able to spend additional monies on these programs.
I don’t get how people complain about these issues but then when they are earmarked to be addressed, then the government is criticized for addressing. It’s a damned if you do, damned if you don’t mentality.
I give credit to the Premier and government for this.

      • Joe Bloggs says:

You should absolutely give credit to our Premier and Finance Minister for creating an economy in which the price of goods goes down once they leave Port Elizabeth N.J. and in which the shipping lines do not charge to ship goods to Bermuda, but rather pay the importers for the privilege of shipping those goods (because that is the only way the cost of goods goes down between Port Elizabeth and Bermuda).

I say the costs of goods goes down between Port Elizabeth and Bermuda because that is the only way that our rate of price inflation is less than that of the United States.

      • Hmmm says:

Watching, you are very much a part of the problem. You are not for Bermudians, just for your PLP masters, despite all the abuse and destruction of Black Bermudians trying to get by and make a living who are struggling or have left, you don’t ever hold the PLP to account. What does that make you? You are part of a fascist PLP gentrification, that throws trinkets at the working and middle class, while taking it back multiple times through other means from those same people. Take a serious look at yourself…life is pretty short on this world, are you making it a better of worse place for the majority ? Or are you so clearly focused on the few. I cannot judge you but, you will be judged.

    QUICK!!! Throw the life rafts!
    You know:
    The people are unhappy!
    You are on borrowed time!

  5. Hilarious says:

“invest” is a politician’s buzzword for we are going to spend your hard-earned money with no demonstrable results.

  6. trufth says:

Yea, throw more money at the problem. Hire a 2nd Pastor Bean. That ought to fix everything.
