Jeon Wolfe, the Bermuda Under-14 national team striker, is brimming with confidence after claiming the coveted Golden Boot award at the recent Caribbean Football Union Under-14 Challenge Series qualifiers in Trinidad and Tobago.

The 14-year-old sensation netted an impressive ten goals in six matches, playing a pivotal role in guiding Bermuda to the tournament final, where they narrowly lost to Barbados in a penalty shootout.

As he now prepares for the upcoming Bermuda Football Association Youth League season with FC Bascome, Wolfe believes his first experience on the international stage has elevated his game and fuelled his ambitions.

“To score ten goals was perfect for me,” Wolfe told Bernews. “I always believed I could score goals at the international level. I’ve a lot of confidence now.

“It was an honour to be part of an amazing group of players.”

Wolfe envisages a bright future for the Bermuda Under-14 squad, praising the team’s chemistry and work ethic. He believes they can achieve even greater things if they remain united and focused.

“We have a special team and if we stay together and keeping working hard, we can go far,” he said. “Our coaches have played a big part in the team’s success.

“Before each game we had meetings, and they told us what we needed to do and motivated us.”

Wolfe, who netted a hat-trick in a 10-1 win over Sint Maarten, said his ultimate ambition is to reach the professional ranks and play for the Bermuda senior national team.

He said he hopes to attend college in the United States, where there is a clear route to turning pro: every year, Major League Soccer [MLS] clubs take their pick of the best college players via the MLS SuperDraft.

Helping guide Wolfe on his footballing journey have been Andrew Bascome, a former national team coach, and Bermuda defender Danté Leverock.

“Andrew Bascome has definitely helped me a lot,” said Wolfe, who started playing football aged three at BAA. “I can see a big change in my game.

“Dante Leverock [at the DaRock Elite Academy] has also been an important coach for me. He trained me every morning before the [CFU Under-14 Challenge Series], which really helped.”
