Police Confirm: Three Men Arrested

Police have arrested three men as part of Operation Athelstan, an “operational response to the firearm incident that occurred on August 24,” with an 18-year-old male “arrested in connection with the firearm incident” and two other men “arrested on suspicion of possession of controlled drugs and drug equipment.”

A police spokesperson said, “Around 3:00pm on Saturday, August 31, 2024, the Bermuda Police Service commenced Operation Athelstan. This is the operational response to the firearm incident that occurred on Saturday August, 2024, whereby an unknown person shot at police officers.

“Three men were arrested during this operation. An 18-year-old male was arrested in connection with the firearm incident on Saturday, August 24, 2024. Two other men were arrested on suspicion of possession of controlled drugs and drug equipment.

“A number of residences and public areas in the Southampton Parish were also searched by police officers and items seized.”

Detective Superintendent Sherwin Joseph, who is the Senior Investigating Officer for Operation Athelstan, said, “I wish to thank those members of our community who have provided invaluable information, that has assisted us with this investigation.

“However, I wish to appeal to persons living in the Random Lane, Lusher Hill, Spice Hill, Pearman’s Hill, Camp Hill, Horseshoe Road, Scenic Heights, and South Avenue areas to contact us should you recall any suspicious activities between 10:00pm on Friday, August 23rd, 2024 and 4:00am on Saturday, August 24, 2024.”

The police spokesperson said, “Please check your CCTV cameras. If you would have seen/captured any persons that seem out of place, whether walking or on a motorcycle between that time frame, we are interested in hearing from you.”
