Archers Compete In Outdoor Nationals Event
The National Archery Association of Bermuda [NAAB] held its Outdoor National event at the Gold Point Archery Range in St George’s on Saturday [October 5].
It was the final outdoor event of the season, with the archers now preparing for the indoor campaign.
In the Barebow Yeoman Development Men’s Division [9 metres], Ethan Adelsberg shot 541, Finn Skinner 431, and Liam Fraser 263.
Aurora Bowers shot 444 in the Barebow Yeoman Development Women’s Division [9 metres].
In the Barebow Senior Amateur Men’s Division [30 metres], Michael Smith shot 218; meanwhile, in the Compound Masters Men’s Division [50 metres], William Pickering shot 638.
In the Recurve Bowman Development Women’s Division [9 metres], Sophia Davidge shot 616.
Braeden Fraser shot 327 in the Recurve Bowman Development Men’s Division [18 metres]; meanwhile, in the Recurve Junior Amateur Women’s Division [30 metres], Elektra Smith shot 540 and N’Dera Skinner shot 510.
Robin Selley shot 591 in the Recurve Cadet Women’s Division [60 metres], and Robert O’Conner shot 446 in the Recurve Masters Men’s Division [60 metres].
In the Recurve Junior Elite Men’s Division [70 metres], Jaydon Roberts shot 590; meanwhile, in the Recurve Senior Amateur Women’s Division [30 metres], Ashley Weekes shot 608.
In the Recurve Senior Amateur Men’s Division [30 metres], Jamie Fraser shot 564 and Anthony Grant shot 473.
Meanwhile, Camerin Pickering shot 616 in the Recurve Senior Amateur Men’s Division [70 metres], and Bernard Wade III shot 586.
Ross Roberts, the NAAB president, said the competition demonstrated the growth of archery on the island.
“Archery continues to grow in Bermuda and during the Outdoor Nationals we had a few developmental and amateur divisions to encourage our progressing archers,” he said.
“Our Yeoman and Bowman [kids] categories show promising upcoming archers.
“These kids have so much enthusiasm, the potential and we ensure they have fun doing so.
“Our amateur division participants will soon progress towards the 50, 60 and 70-metre distances.
“For our Cadets shooting at 60, Juniors shooting at 70 and Seniors shooting at 70, this event determines their participation in the Event Qualifiers, World Cup and World Championship Events next year.
“Robin Selly, Recurve Cadet archer has secured her position during this national shoot to travel to Buenos Aires, Argentina, in March 2025 to shoot in the qualifier for the Junior 2025 Pan American Games.
“Recurve Junior archer, Jaydon Roberts, qualified for the Junior 2025 Pan American Games in May.
“We hope to have Robin secure her position in March 2025 to allow them to compete in the mixed team event along with their individual matches.”
Trina Roberts, the secretary general, added: “We want to thank all the archers, their supportive families, and friends for joining us,” Trina Roberts, the secretary general said.
“To our volunteers and sponsors – Restaurant and Gold Point Archery, thank you for your continued support.
“This event ends our outdoor shooting season, and we are now preparing for upcoming indoor events.”
The first indoor event for the local archers will be the World Archery Indoor Series in Lausanne, Switzerland, on November 1.
Pickering will shoot in the Recurve Senior Men, while Jaydon Roberts and Selley will shoot in the Under-21 Male and Female divisions respectively.
