Govt: Classifying A ‘Sponsored Dependant’
The Ministry of Economy and Labour is reminding employers and work permit holders of the eligibility criteria for classifying an individual as a ‘sponsored dependant’ under the Work Permit Policy 2017.
A Government spokesperson said, “The Ministry of Economy and Labour takes this opportunity to remind employers and work permit holders of the eligibility criteria for classifying an individual as a ‘sponsored dependant’ under the Work Permit Policy 2017 [the Policy]. This comes in response to recent applications being automatically refused due to ineligibility.
“Under Section 5 of the policy, a sponsored dependant is defined as:
- The spouse of a Permanent Resident Certificate [PRC] holder or work permit holder [married in accordance with Bermuda law].
- The partner of a Bermudian, PRC holder, or work permit holder.
- Children of a PRC holder or work permit holder.
“It is important to note that parents are not considered sponsored dependants under this definition. While parents of work permit holders may apply for permission to reside in Bermuda, they must meet specific criteria. These include demonstrating independent financial means of support, providing proof of health insurance, and submitting all required documentation with their application.
“The sponsored dependant classification applies exclusively to work permit holders.
