To celebrate World Sight Day, Vision Bermuda invites the public to join them for a special Open House from 11:00 AM to 3:00 PM on October 10, 2024, at their newly renovated Beacon House location on the corner of Cedar Avenue and Dundonald Road.

A spokesperson said, “Vision Bermuda is excited to celebrate World Sight Day 2024 on 10 October by highlighting the critical importance of children’s vision and eye health. This year’s theme, organized by the International Agency for the Prevention of Blindness under the Love Your Eyes campaign, centres on ensuring that children everywhere have the opportunity to love and care for their eyes.

“Focusing on uncorrected vision impairments in children, this year’s campaign underscores the severe impact these issues can have on educational outcomes. Studies show that providing children with the proper corrective measures—like spectacles—can reduce failure rates by 44%. Vision Bermuda urges parents, caregivers, and schools to participate in the Global Challenge by screening children’s vision and raising awareness about sight conditions that require early treatment.

Theresa Hall, Executive Director of Vision Bermuda emphasized the importance of this effort, “Uncorrected vision problems in children can have lifelong effects on learning and development. By emphasizing early detection and treatment, we can help children succeed both in and out of the classroom. We encourage everyone to take part in this important effort on World Sight Day.”

A spokesperson added, “In recognition of this global event, Vision Bermuda invites the public to join them for a special Open House from 11:00 AM to 3:00 PM on October 10, 2024, at their newly renovated Beacon House location on the corner of Cedar Ave and Dundonald Rd. Attendees will have the chance to explore a wide range of services and accessibility products designed for individuals with low vision or blindness, including demonstrations of large and small products—some available for purchase. Vision Rehabilitation Specialist, Theresa McMordie, will be on-site to discuss the services offered and provide insights into assistive tools and strategies for people with vision impairments.

Ms McMordie explained, “Vision Bermuda delivers vision rehabilitation programmes and services. Vision rehabilitation is the process of restoring functional ability and improving quality of life and independence in an individual who has lost visual function through illness or injury. The goal is to give blind and partially sighted people the tools they need to live they life they want to lead.
