Saltus Announces Board Leadership Changes
Saltus announced the retirement of Board Chair Gil Tucker after 13 years, appointing E. Michael Leverock as his successor and celebrating Tucker’s significant contributions to the school and Bermuda community.
A spokesperson said, “After an impressive 13-year tenure as Board Chair and 27 years as a Board Trustee, Saltus is announcing the retirement of Gil Tucker from the Board. E. Michael Leverock, the current Designate Board Chair, will assume the role of Board Chair effective immediately.
“Gil Tucker’s association with Saltus spans decades, starting with his enrolment in 1966 and graduation in 1971. As the first Black Bermudian Head Boy at Saltus, Mr. Tucker’s influence and leadership have left an indelible mark on both the school and the Bermuda community. His legacy of service and commitment extended beyond Saltus, as he served on various government advisory boards and local committees, including the Bermuda International Business Forum and the Chamber of Commerce. Mr. Tucker co-chaired the Steering Committee of Bermuda First, a non-partisan group focused on the country’s economic sustainability and is a past President of the Bermuda Hamilton Rotary Club and former Chairman of the Bermuda Career Centre.
“Mr. Tucker first joined the Saltus Board of Trustees in 1997 and was appointed Board Chair in 2011. During his time on the Board, his leadership was instrumental in the completion of the Francis “Goose” Gosling Centre, contributing significantly to the school’s growth and development.
“Saltus will celebrate Gil Tucker’s contributions with a formal event in the spring, recognising his remarkable service and lasting impact on the school and broader community.”
The Board of Trustees has unanimously voted to appoint E. Michael Leverock as the new Board Chair. Leverock, who has served as the Designate Board Chair, expressed his gratitude and optimism for the future. “The Board is eternally grateful for the contributions that Mr. Tucker has made to the school and the lasting legacy he leaves behind. I know that I have big shoes to fill, but this is an exciting time to join the Board of Trustees at Saltus and offer my leadership as Board Chair.”
Mr. Leverock emphasised the significance of Saltus’s recent designation as a BC Offshore School offering the British Columbia Curriculum. “This year marks our first year as a BC Offshore school, which is a game-changer for education on the island. I am filled with optimism and enthusiasm and look forward to setting the stage for our students to thrive in an ever-evolving world,” he added.
The spokesperson said, “Saltus remains committed to continuing its legacy of excellence under Mr. Leverock’s leadership as the school embarks on this next chapter.
“Saltus Grammar School is also pleased to welcome the addition of Liam Moloney as Board Trustee and Chair of the Finance Committee and Amy Jagoda, President of the Saltus Association and ex-officio member of the Board.”
