Bermudian boxer Saundre “Dash” Simmons is determined to seize the moment as he prepares to face Nigerian fighter Nosa Divine Nehikhare in Houston, Texas, on Friday, [November 1].
The light heavyweight match-up, set to take place at the Red Owl Boxing Arena, will be featured on the undercard of a show airing live on the sports streaming platform DAZN.
With a professional record of four consecutive victories, Simmons is confident he can extend his winning streak against Nehikhare, who has claimed five wins in his seven bouts.
“He’s a solid opponent, but I’ve had a good camp and was already preparing for a bout that fell through, so I’ve had an extra week to prepare and cross some extra t’s and dot some i’s,” Simmons told Bernews.
“I’m confident I can beat this guy. I’m ecstatic. It’s a big opportunity and it’s my first fight with my new management company, Williams Sports Agency.”
The 27-year-old feels well-equipped to handle the challenges of facing the first southpaw opponent of his pro career.
“Even before I knew I had this fight, I was getting some good southpaw work in,” said Simmons, whose bout will be six rounds.
“I’ve been asking for an opportunity like this for a while. I’m not scared to fight.”
Born in Lancaster, Massachusetts, Simmons grew up in Somerset, Bermuda, with his Bermudian parents before moving to Asheville, North Carolina, with his mother at age 12.
His amateur boxing career was marked by notable achievements, including runner-up finishes at both the USA National Boxing Championships in Louisiana and the Golden Gloves of America in Oklahoma in 2021.
